Developing a healthy prayer life isn’t always an easy thing to do. There are hindrances to praying, different needs, and different ways of praying. Jesus had some unusual habits in his prayer life. This lesson will get you started.

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”

Luke 5:16

Praying alone on a mountain is great for me. Sitting next to a stream surrounded by evergreens and snowcapped peaks inspires me to reach out to God. But the crowded, busy place where I live is often where prayer is needed most. Can you relate? Does the city make having a rich devotional life more difficult? Are we constantly blended with the slush of urban life? Or is that an excuse?

• Some Thoughts About Prayer

It is about a relationship; it’s how we talk to our Father. It doesn't have to be formal. Talking with God in key moments throughout the day is a good thing.

• Some Thoughts About Praying

Ask the Spirit to help. Yes, the Spirit will help you pray. Is it a struggle to pray if it seems God isn’t listening? Do “unanswered prayers” hinder you? Does your mind wander? Remember it’s about the relationship. God loves you and loves hearing from you. Don’t get down on yourself if prayer is a struggle for you.

Jesus went to quiet places to pray. If He needed the solace of prayer, so do I.
